Judge Chad Dotson

Brian January 25th, 2007

As has been widely reported on around the blogosphere, the General Assembly recently passed SR44 and HR53, which “nominated [Chad Dotson] to be elected” as General District Court “judge of the Thirtieth Judicial District for a term of six years commencing February 1, 2007.”

This news, of course, was not a great surprise to the local bar. We had known for a few months that Chad was in the hunt and likely to be the next Judge.

Congratulations to Chad.

I can only assume that this now means Steve will be the next blogger heading for the bench, followed immediately by yours truly. Then again, maybe I should just stick with blogging for a few more years.

I don’t think either of us needs to be shutting down the blogs just yet.

I think you are right, Steve, we can probably keep our blogs going for the foreseeable future, but it never hurts to dream.

As for my views, I certainly would support Steve for a judgeship, as he has all of the attributes one would want in a judge, intellect, good humor, great research and writing skills, and a healthy dose of pragmatism. Chad Dotson is blessed with these same skills and will be a great judge.

As to you, Brian, I would support you for the same reasons, but I would fear that justice’s gain might be the political arena’s loss. I would love to see you throw your hat in the ring and run for something. Should you decide that a political career does not suit you, then you may count on my support for your judgeship.

As to the closing of the blogs, well, I miss Chad’s, and I would hate to lose your’s or Steve’s.
