Third District Special Election

Brian January 2nd, 2006

Tomorrow is the big day for Dan Bowling and Shea Cook. The only prediction I am going to make is that it will probably be very close.

I do think it is safe to assume that Dan will get most of the Buchanan County votes, since its heavily Democratic. Then even if they split the vote in Tazewell County equally, the overall margin should still favor Dan.

One unknown is what Russell County will do since it has a local guy running as an Independent and what effect it will have since its only three precincts.

Another big unknown, that could hurt Dan, is how many votes Independent candidate Jerry Elkins, from Buchanan County, will take away.

If you live in the Third Legislative District (Buchanan, Tazewell, and part of Russell Counties) be sure and vote tomorrow at your usual polling place.

When you go out to vote, be sure and remember that Dan Bowling is endorsed by former Delegate Jackie Stump, Governor Mark Warner, and the UMWA.

Update:

It looks like the SBE will post results here from both Special Elections being held today.

Ben is predicting that Bowling will win the Third District, but that Ryan McDougle will win the Fourth District Senate seat.

Update II:

Congrats to Delegate Dan Bowling. With 97.78% precincts reporting, its safe to say that Dan Bowling has won the Third District seat.

He is currently leading with over 60% of the vote compared to Shea Cook’s 28%.

It looks like the voters knew the candidates better than the Bristol paper did.

A sound victory for Dan Bowling and the Democrats in the 3d.

I wish him luck in the GA. He has just taken on a big responsibility, and his experience as a member of the Board of Supervisors will be helpful.

What’s the record of the BHC on endorsements? I know they supported Kaine and continue to endorse Boucher, but what about other races?
