The end of Blogger?

Brian November 29th, 2005

WordPress continues to out do itself. This new blogger-like service (WordPress.com) is amazing. Why would anyone prefer Blogger over Wordpress?

I suppose the only people that will stay with Blogger now are those that have built up a lot of links to their .blogspot.com URLs or are traditionalists. The only thing they really had going for them was the price.

After a few months of using Blogger, I jumped on the WordPress train as fast as I could. Now one can have WordPress for free.

The WordPress.com admin interface is really close to the normal WordPress and only missing a few features.

This will probably be the end of Blogger as we know it.

Thanks Brian for the link. I really think this will hurt blogger.

I agree, Kilo. Its probably more of a question of how much.

I think you may be correct. For blogs with more than 100 inbound links, or people who just don’t aren’t interested in recreating their sidebar, probably won’t move. But new bloggers will want Word Press.

Probably those with 5,000+ Blogger posts over three years (and a cool Blogger hoodie) won’t rush to make the leap.

We switched from Moveable Type to Word Press a few months back and I love it. It’s extremely easy to use, and in fact we transfered all our old posts (almost two years worth) over to the new system.

I am not sure about the free Wordpress service, but when I changed over to the stand alone I was able to import all of my old blogger posts. Although I had a lot less than the Yota of SWVA Blogging. :)

It is Christmas time. You could put a WP hoddie on your list. Heck, that is going on my list too.
