Sulphur Springs School

Brian November 12th, 2005

One of the cool things I got to do this past election day was visit 11 of the 13 polling places in Dickenson County. The award for best building has to go to Precinct Number 202, in Frying Pan.

Sulphur Springs School

This building is the old Sulphur Springs School.

They have pictures hanging on the wall of past teachers, dating back to the 1800s.

That is a nice building, has a rustic feel to it. Is it on the national register of historic places? If not, it should be.

    I love Virginia!

Did anyone get a chance to drive the skyline before the leaves fell. One word: fanfriggintastic!

Volume 1, Issue 12 Virginia Blog Carnival

It is my extreme pleasure and honor to be allowed to host the 12th issue of the first year’s edition of the Virginia Blogger Carnival. May it continue in the years to come as a valuable resource to future Virginians.

I went to this School first grade through 2nd.We would have class half the day then we would go outside & let the older classes learn. My teacher was Trula Powers,i’ll never forget the pot belly stove,we use to have our lunch sandwiches wrapped in wax paper,we’d rub them on the hot stove & brown them.I rem. listening to Brenda Lee records & my sister dancing around the old pot belly stove.So-So many memories of the old school, didn’t learn too much, about like little house on the pararie school days.

I went to school there 1st.thru.4th.I loved it there. We would skate on the frozen creek , in the winter. And one time. There was a big snow & we had to walk a long way ,I fell in the snow & my knee was bledding so bad. When we got to the school, someone threw the basketball, in the school & broke the stovepipe & we had to go back home. We had a lot of fun at the School. I remember the Ladies coming to teach us about God & The Bible. When you are young ,there are some things you don’t forget.I don’t remember doing a lot of homework, I think we done most of it at the school. There wasn’t many in each class.I think we had grades 1-6. I loved my teacher Ms. Trula Powers. Sooo many good memories!!

I wanted to add something to my note.I wish someone could preserve this old School House, the floors were the old hardwood that they would oil.I think it needs to be in the register for historic places, there’s not many left.Someone needs to take care of it,for all of us that have so many memories of it.Thanks.
