“Transporation”
Brian September 19th, 2005
Jerry Kilgore sent out an interesting mailer in Northern Virginia a few days ago. The conservative blogs were all excited as if it was going to change the entire course of the election.
For some reason, Kilgore got a big laugh out of the fact that Kaine took a few minutes to pose for a picture with some folks of the Dublin Lions Club, a great group in Southwest Virginia, and makers of the famous “Lion Dog.” I fail to see how spending some time in rural Virginia is a bad thing, but I guess Jerry has been in Richmond too long and enjoys making fun of Southwest Virginia when its politically advantageous.

However, what was most interesting about this mailer, in which Kilgore proclaimed to have a superior “transportation” plan is that we learned that Kilgore cannot even spell the word “transportation.”
How can we trust our state to a guy that cannot even spell the word - much less come up with a decent plan to address the traffic problems in Northern Virginia.
(Hat tip to Not Guy Incognito)

Got to tell ya, I don’t trust Kaine’s transportation plan, but ever time I hear Kilgore speak I am less and less interested in voting for him.
It would be nice to see Kaine take a decent stand on the 2nd Amendment though.
Here’s the secret to split the Sportsman’s vote - have him come out in support of the 2nd Amendment as a protecting an individuals fundamental right to keep and bear arms (he needs to in order to shore up his credibility, cause his wording on the issue right now says nothing and stinks of the gun banning talking points coming out of Brady and the American Hunting and Shooting Association (or whatever the fraud is called)
Then - and this is where it gets good.
Have him come out in support of Sunday hunting. Right now, the only thing stopping Virginia from entering the modern world and allowing hunting on Sunday (lots of people have to work on Saturdays or attend their kids soccer games) is the demands of the christian right in Newport News to keep sunday a sacred day. If Kaine did this, he would split the sportsmens vote off from the religious wackos - come out as MORE PRO GUN than Kilgore and force the NRA into his corner.
Just a thought.
You shouldn’t be so hard on the guy Brian. I mean, transportation, that’s a tough word to spell.
In all seriousness, perhaps he should hire an English major to help with spellcheck. I hear a “talented” writer just got fired from the campaign she was working on in Wytheville….
Countertop,
You may be on to something with the hunting on Sunday. I know a lot of people have to work and are unable to hunt but one day (Saturday) per week.
I do know, however, that Kaine is a strong believe of the 2nd Amendment, regardless of what Kilgore tries to say. He may not be in favor of passing out AK-47s across from a high school, but he would never try and prevent someone from having a gun for protection or hunting.
Mandy,
Ha. We should forward her Resume to Kilgore. She would be perfect for them.
That reminds me of Jeanne-Marie Devolites/Davis’s state senate campaign in 2003.
She sent out a mail piece that was littered with typoes, including the big, bold headline: “Jeanne Marie Be Good Senator!”
ouch
Brian,
Its a wonderful idea, if i do say so myself. However, regardless of what you, the folks at raisingkaine, Tim Kaine, or any other democrat says, Tim Kaine has ZERO credibility on gun issues until he comes out and agrees the 2nd amendment protects an individual right.
Listen, and I’ve explained this to you guys before, every time you resort to Brady Bunch sloganeering you dig a deeper and deeper hole for yourselves and continue to cement the fears of most gun owners that your nothing but gun banning bigots.
Stop the allusions to AK-47s and assault weapons and “cop killer bullets” and “Saturday Night Specials” and the notion of “Reasonable Gun Control” cause it will all blow up in your face.
Look, I’ve come to the conclusion that Kilgore has serious problems. He needs to be defeated, and I think this is a way to appeal to two huge constituencies in Virginia (gun owners and hunters) and split off the Religious Right.
But, you guys will never have ANY credibility (let alone the credibility to pull this off) as long as you keep deferring to the bigoted gun banning talking points of the Brady Bunch and Commie Mommies.
