Acres of Democrats

Brian September 4th, 2005

I just got back from the annual “Acres of Democrats” event in Wytheville, Virginia. To say it was a “Who’s Who” of Virginia politics would be an understatement.

A few of the speakers were:

  • Mark Warner
  • Rick Boucher
  • Tim Kaine
  • Leslie Byrne
  • Creigh Deeds
  • Phillip Puckett
  • John Edwards
  • Rex McCarty
  • Eric Ferguson
  • Benny Keister
  • Roscoe Reynolds
  • In addition to the speakers and other elected officials, every campaign worker you have ever spoke to or seen email from was there. It was really an awesome event.

Here are some of the photos I took. They are not very good, but we were probably sitting too far back to take pictures.

All of the speakers gave outstanding speeches. In fact, some of them surprised me by what good speakers they were. One quote that stuck out for me was from Ferguson. He said “I am not going to give them hell. I am going to tell the truth and they will think it’s hell.”

Before and after the event all of the candidates stuck around and met with voters and media. I could have taken photos then, but I was too busy meeting everyone. It was pretty awesome getting to shake hands with people I admire so much. Even more amazing is when they say “oh yeah, you are the blogger from Southwest Virginia. Love your blog.”

I am sure I do not say it enough, but thank you all for reading.

      Brian,

Sorry I didn’t get to meet you in person. Eric and I were both looking for you but somehow missed you.

Glad to read that you liked Eric’s comment on Giving them hell!

You have a great blog and shed some light on a part of the state that doesn’t get its fair share of just about anything!

      Thanks,

      Joe

      Joe,

I seen you guys a few times, but was always tied up with someone. If not before, maybe I can catch up with you all at the Victory party in November.

      Keep up the great work.
